Shock F2 Champion
On July 20th, 2024, a driver by the name of eGrid Outlaws made a huge splash in the Formula 2 world. The young driver signed with Prema Racing to join Oliver Bearman for the 2024 season. He went on to win his first two races in F2, and then it all came down to the final race in the Netherlands.
Outlaw was at the top of the standings, but close behind was Jehan Daruvala who had been a consistent contender for the championship since the beginning. We have arrived at the last race of the year to decide who wins. Everything looks like it’s playing into the young eGrid Oultaw's hands; however, one bad qualifying session throws the championship up for grabs. Outlaw qualified P21, and Daruvala was starting P2. Outlaw would have to push through the whole field and hope that Theo Pourchaire in P1 can keep Daruvala behind him. Outlaw would get a bad start, but then quickly make up positions going into turn one. He had 9 more laps to go if he was to succeed in his goal for glory in Formula 2 and secure a Formula 1 seat.
The race was close, however Theo Pourchaire would come through to win the Grand Prix. That meant Daruvala would finish just behind in 2nd. After a race of fighting, the fastest lap, and overtaking 14 cars, Outlaw managed to secure the championship with just 4 points! What’s next for this young rookie? Will he become a reserve driver in F1? Or will he make a shock deal with a team that he can help lead to glory?
